You may have heard about Facebook’s new Pages experience if you haven’t already been encouraged to switch over. If you haven’t, this article is still for you as we break down the New Pages experience and what it means for your business page.
On the surface, not too much has changed. Your Facebook business page will still look familiar to your visitors and page followers — all the changes are happening under the hood. The new Pages experience has tools to make it easier for page managers to take a more active approach to social media management. Here’s what you need to know.
What is the Facebook New Pages experience?
The new Pages on Facebook is an update on the backend of all business pages. Not much on the front-end is changing — the business page will still look the same to visitors. If you haven’t gotten the prompt that the new Pages experience is available, you may get one soon, as Facebook continues to roll out the update.
What has changed with the new Pages experience?
With the new Pages experience, you can switch between your personal profile and your business page directly from the Facebook homepage. You’ll be able to interact with fans and other pages as your business — and there’s a clearer distinction between acting as yourself or the business page. Facebook now makes it easier with the profile switcher in the top right of its platform.
Changes you should pay attention to include:
- The new professional dashboard that provides page insights
- Better page notifications
- The task manager — an update to what we know as Page Roles
How task access works
What we know as Page Roles are gone and have been replaced with what Facebook calls task access. Before, you could only assign one role to each person. Now, specific tasks can be assigned to different members of your team in any combination. This allows even greater access and accountability to your team members who may hold multiple responsibilities.
Classic Page Roles | New Pages – Task Access |
Admin | Full page control |
Editor | Content (Create, manage or delete posts, Stories, and more. Respond to comments and update Page information.) |
Moderator | Messages (Send and respond to direct messages as the Page, and other functionality in Inbox.) Community Activity (Review and respond to comments, remove unwanted content, report page activity, etc.) |
Advertiser | Ads (Create, manage and delete ads, and other ads-related tasks.) |
Analyst | Insights (See how the Page, content, ads and other metrics perform.) |
What should you be doing for your business page?
With the new Pages experience, you’ll have a dedicated newsfeed for your business page. Pages and public figures that your business page followed on Classic pages can now be found in your business page’s news feed. This is where you can engage, like, and comment on content. Any new pages you choose to follow will be shown here.
The new page experience gives many Facebook page managers the opportunity to engage with followers more meaningfully than before thanks to better tools. The business news feed allows you to discover opportunities to connect with real people as a business page. As Facebook’s everchanging algorithm affects how content reaches our audiences, the need for a more active approach to social media has never been greater.
Change can be confusing or a lot to take in, but in this case, it could be a good thing. We recommend starting with the following items and encourage you to make the new pages experience work for you and your business:
- Assign task access to your team members
- Explore the new professional dashboard
- Follow people and pages relevant to your page
